Sahel: A Map of its Crises

“I don’t see photography as recording a decisive moment, but rather as the trace of an encounter.” 

Much of the work of photo and video journalist Pablo Tosco (Córdoba, Argentina, 1975) over the last twenty years has focused on the Sahel region. There, he has documented the diversity of an immense territory where the climate crisis, the deterioration of its capacity for governance, and the degradation of security create an explosive cocktail.  

In this 35-minute piece produced by Sonda Internacional, Pablo shares his photographs of the Sahel, taking us on a journey through the region’s waterways. A journey that brings us closer to its people and helps us understand the complexity of a territory ravaged by intertwined crises.
