Photographing the invisible

“I would like the work we do to help build a visual legacy that can serve as a reference for future generations, so they can understand what our planet’s biodiversity is like, what it was like and, hopefully, what it continues to be.”

Roberto García-Roa (Madrid, 1984) is a biologist, researcher and photographer. For years he has travelled to different regions of the world, combining scientific research and photography to document biodiversity and bring us closer to species, ecosystems and processes that often go unnoticed.

In this audiovisual piece produced by Sonda Internacional, Roberto shares the stories behind his photographs and introduces some of the threats facing biodiversity in different parts of the world.

The journey allows us to observe beings we can barely perceive with the naked eye, learn about organisms we know very little about and better understand the ecosystems they belong to. It takes us to chimpanzee sanctuaries in Gabon, Cameroon and Guinea, travels to Antarctica and ventures into a cave in the Valencian Community, among many other places.
