The comparison between these two satellite images, taken 36 years apart by NASA, shows deforestation in the Chiquitano dry forests, located in the Bolivian department of Santa Cruz. This is one of the last regions of dry tropical forests in South America. Since the late 1970s, the disappearance of forests in the region has steadily increased, as they are being replaced by land for cattle ranching and agricultural fields.
